Abstract
This paper reports on results of usability studies of soldiers using advanced simulation training systems. Data were collected from users of a series of simulation systems, a collection of Army ground tracked vehicle desktop diagnostic trainers, developed over the past decade. The paper describes the evolution of system design and testing over the past decade with details on usability, user and instructor perceptions, and use. The paper provides guidelines for future simulation systems using a model that considers task affor-dances and demands, user characteristics, and the nature of the domain.
