This study describes a content analysis of research themes of papers presented at the annual meetings of the Human Factors Society (HFS) during 1969–1985. HF research during this period was very wide ranging, but except for new technology (e.g., space vehicles and computers), largely a continuation of interests developed by a predecessor discipline, psychology.
