Abstract
A number of issues and challenges must be addressed if effective usability and accessibility standards are to be developed in the next decade. The issues addressed in this panel include: technical, regulatory, and cultural issues for accessibility standards, harmonization of national and international standards, user interface technology life-cycles and the timing of standards efforts, and the challenge of developing useful standards in an environment of rapidly evolving technology.
