Abstract
The hypotheses tested in this research are: (1) does the frequency and the volume of ventilation increases when lifting with a belt; (2) does the frequency and the volume of ventilation increases more when wearing a belt with a larger tension. The result of this study indicated a significant increase in breath-by-breath respiration (difference between the post-lifting and the pre-lifting ventilation) while wearing the belt during low workload and repetitive lifting task. There are also evidence showed that the mechanism responsible for modulating the breath was different when lifting with and without the belt.
