Abstract
The German legislation on health and safety at work obliges the employer to take measures to improve the level of health and safety protection at work. To some extent, this regulation has a very general character. Increasingly this lack of specification leads to decision difficulties, which particular measures should be taken from both an ergonomic and an economic perspective. The Ergonomics Institute, Darmstadt University of Technology has performed analyses of more than 5000 workplaces in companies of different sectors. From this work a collection of case studies has resulted.
