The ARCHISIM multidisciplinary project was aimed at gaining a deeper understanding of road situations and driver activity, constructing a model of these activities and, on that basis, designing a real-time traffic simulation system capable of hosting a driving simulator. In this paper, we will present the general approach adopted in our project and the main results obtained so far. We will conclude by discussing prospects for further research that continues this work.
