Abstract
To investigate driver behaviour and driver strain depending on road condition, a large number of driving tests has been performed on different test facilities in Europe. The results showed, that driver behaviour on dry and wet road is more or less similar while behaviour on icy road is completely different. Driver strain, both subjectively rated and objectively measured, shows no significant difference between the road conditions. Because persons do not choose a more defensive driving style, even though it should be the case due to the smaller friction level available, a special focus for tire development must be put on wet road.
