Abstract
Biblical scholars have portrayed Jesus as a teacher who confronted the enculturated consciousness of his listeners. Jesus knew that the journey to the kingdom of God begins with an inward turn, the first step in the transcendence of an outer-dominated, conventional, and sociocentric worldview. He therefore adopted a transformational teaching style designed to move the enculturated consciousness of his listeners from a conventional to a postconventional, worldcentric embrace of humanity. The parable of the Good Samaritan serves as an example of Jesus' transformational intentions and methodology.
