Abstract
During the last 10 years, day programs for severely handicapped adults have become a familiar component of community services. This paper examines the current status of those programs, with particular reference to the vocational options provided to participants. Concerns are raised about the lack of work opportunities, disincentives to work, lack of federal coordination, and absence of entitlement. Strategies for effecting needed change are offered for policy makers, advocates, researchers, and public school personnel.
