Abstract
Work in progress is investigating the role of age-related declines in cognitive abilities (such as memory and reasoning) in the acquisition of new habit-level attention skills. The model that serves as a framework for the project predicts that reductions in the central processing capacity of older adults will be associated with an inability to develop new automatic habits. Preliminary data fit the model.
