Abstract
What is the place of habit in the ongoing process of personal growth? From a phenomenological and existential point of view, habits are ways in which humans shape their everyday behavior and attitudes toward life into predictable patterns. These habits in turn become the basis for the emergence of personal identities as narrative interpretations of human lives. How humans go beyond their deep, habitual behavior and attitudes in a process of self-transcendence and spiritual renewal is the theme of this article. Such spiritual growth leads to a sense of liberation and possibility in one's life, a sense of being able.
