The Journal and Sage was alerted by the authors of a recent publication that describes one or more non-verifiable human cell lines-
Oste DJ, Pathmendra P, Richardson RAK, et al. Misspellings or “miscellings”—Non-verifiable and unknown cell lines in cancer research publications. Int J Cancer. 2024; 1-12. doi:10.1002/ijc.34995
The article describes the cell line BGC803 which is a misspelling of MGC-803. Additionally, it was noted that the cell line appears to be a hybrid colony of HeLa and a gastric cancer cell from an Asian individual, hence considered contaminated.
Sage has contacted the authors of this article on this matter, and an investigation is underway. This expression of concern has been put in place to alert the readers of the journal.
