Abstract
This single-case study evaluated the effectiveness of integrating choice of conversation topic into a telehealth delivered video modeling intervention for improving conversation skills in an autistic adolescent when interacting with a caregiver. The intervention, delivered via telehealth, positively impacted the adolescent’s question answering and engagement, supporting existing research on the efficacy of video modeling and personalized interventions. In addition, incorporating topic choice into the intervention positively impacted the participant’s conversational engagement. The study highlights the role of intrinsic motivation and natural supports enhancing intervention outcomes. It also demonstrated the feasibility and acceptability of the intervention for the participant and caregiver, underscoring the potential of technology-based interventions to improve accessibility and effectiveness, making them a valuable option for families and practitioners.
