Abstract
In recent history, several high-profile cases have brought national attention to issues of racial profiling, police brutality, and media representations of victims of color. The following article examines two: the death of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri, and the death of Eric Garner in Staten Island, New York. This article will examine these two cases through the lens of Citizens’ Media, focusing specifically on the ways in which two particular social media movements served to influence the nation’s discourse surrounding these two tragedies.
