"Land of My Fathers," "Another Mother," and "Someday He'll Come Along" were written for and presented at sessions chaired by Norman Denzin at the Midwest Sociological Society meetings in 1998, 1999, and 2000, respectively. Along with two earlier pieces, "My Mother's Car" and "Sarah and Me," they are intended to answer Denzin's call for new stories about life in postmodern society in his presidential address to the Midwest Sociological Society.
