This is an overview of the organizational structure of vascular surgery in Europe. The European Society for Vascular Surgery has developed to become the premier scientific society; it publishes the European Journal of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery. A Division and a Board of Vascular Surgery has been created within the European Union with representatives from all member states. The board operates the European Board of Surgery Qualification in Vascular Surgery, an opportunity to prove professional pro ficiency for certified specialists, a system for endorsement of continuing med ical education, continuing medical education events, a register of training cen ters ; a EuroCME website for on-line continuing medical education is current ly being developed. In several countries, national registries of vascular surgi cal index procedures are maturing, and Eurovasc reports are available on an annual basis. In spite of the high complexity of the European political land scape, vascular surgery is now firmly established.
