Abstract
Requirements from original equipment manufacturers and tier 1 suppliers to the automotive companies have catalyzed the need to develop new and innovative approaches for the design and construction of air bag (cushion) ma terials. From these requirements, innovative yarns, new coating approaches, and a family of chemically engineered textile substrates were developed to meet the challenges demanded by cost-performance formulas, recyclability, and designer flexibility. These differentiated approaches represent tomorrow's hybrid solution to the next generation of automotive air bags.
