SUMMARY
Whether or not you select the Zero “0” Discharge method of meeting environmental regulations, it is a reality that the future textile finishing plant will face ever-increasing restrictions on its discharge allowance. Already in some areas of the country it is impossible to obtain expansion or new construction permits for coating plant construction. We believe that zero discharge is the logical answer to this problem and that anything else will always be questionable. Plants that wish to continue to function in the year 2000 will eventually have to bite the bullet and focus on long-term capital expenditures for new equipment. At the present, new equipment is a “good buy” because it is priced below fair market value. The vast amount of research expenditure required to develop new and innovative technology suitable to tougher environmental control will eventually drive the price up, and the quantity of marginal competitors down.
We believe that Mascoe's equipment is the most favorable method of achieving Zero “0” Discharge. Instead of adding operating cost to meet environmental control, this equipment actually reduces the cost of present day processing by:
a. Lowering energy consumption in the dryer
b. Reducing and controlling waste of the chemical processed
c. Reducing range downtime for cleanup and changeover
d. Eliminating current waste removal cost ($400-$500 barrel)
The complexity of this system requires that we manufacture all of the range components — coater, tenter, dryer, foamer, scrubber and water separator to assure that the systems imbalance factor is minimal. At best Mascoe can manufacture only five complete ranges per year. If we have to replace 1000 ranges it will take us 200 years.
