The use of computers in coatings research and development is reviewed using suc cessful applications in our own laboratory as examples. We examine the use of com puters in recipe calculation, polymer design, polymer process development, and sol vent formulation. Benefits and limitations are reviewed, followed by a discussion of factors which in the opinion of the author contribute to successes in using computers in coatings research and development.
