The various methods of flame retarding fabrics, i.e., by padding or impregnating, coating on one or both sides and the mechanisms of how flame retardants work are discussed for different substrates and flame retardants. Flammability standards and methods which are commonly used are reviewed. Markets for flame retardant fabrics are also presented.
