Abstract
Since the late 1930s when production of pressure sensitive packaging tapes was started in the UK, the market for pressure sensitive products has grown dramatically. Solution rubber based compounds re present the major share of the adhesive usage, but it is felt that these will come under increased pressure as new developments make alternatives more attractive and concern about environmental pollution grows. Alter natives are aqueous dispersions of natural rubber and tackifying resins, acrylic emulsion polymers, hot melt systems, and possibly in the future, curable liquid polymers.
