Abstract
A new principle for producing poromerics is proposed in which an electron beam is used to perforate composite materials with an outer layer of PVC or PU. The advantages lie in the fact that the perforated material allows air from inside the shoe to be more readily exhausted to atmosphere, carrying moisture with it and enhancing foot comfort. Tests so far indicate a comfort level at least as good as natural leather. The concept of a production machine is discussed and properties of materials and economics are presented.
