Aramid fibers are common asbestos replacement materials for friction and sealing products.
In brake pads, friction papers, as well as in static gaskets highly fibrillated short cut fibers, the aramid pulp is used. The aramid pulp not only serves as processing aid in the manufacturing process but also has great impact on the performance of the products. The following article describes the manufacture, properties, and performance data of para-aramid pulp and its function in friction materials and static gaskets.
