Abstract
Created by legislation in 1991, the North Carolina Center for Nursing is the first state-funded agency dedicated to assuring adequate nursing resources to meet the health care needs of the citizens of the state. This article describes the evolution of the North Carolina Nurse Workforce Planning Model, including regional planning alliances and a statewide consortium, and the development of a statewide plan for nursing. Current efforts to increase data-driven nurse workforce policy are also discussed.
