Abstract
Strategies must be created and developed to promote increased participation of registered nurses in the political process and health care policy decision making. An interaction model is presented here that illustrates the driving forces that frame and influence health care policy decisions, including motivators and inhibitors, and makes apparent the need for social responsibility and applied ethics at all levels. It illustrates entry levels into the process. Nurses can utilize this model prospectively and retrospectively in the creation and analysis of strategies to influence appropriate health care policy decisions.
