Abstract
Dynamic compression of the dorsalis pedis artery is an underrecognized vascular phenomenon. We report an asymptomatic 52-year-old male in whom severe focal stenosis of the dorsalis pedis artery was observed during foot dorsiflexion. Repeat angiography with plantar flexion demonstrated complete resolution of the lesion, confirming position-dependent arterial compression. Recognition of this phenomenon is essential to avoid misinterpretation as fixed atherosclerotic disease and unnecessary intervention.
Clinical Impact
Dynamic dorsalis pedis artery compression is a position-dependent phenomenon that can mimic fixed stenosis on angiography. Simple positional maneuvers can clarify the diagnosis. Recognition of this phenomenon can prevent misdiagnosis and unnecessary intervention.
