Abstract
Advancing methodological approaches to the comparative study of institutional meaning systems is vital for institutional analysis in a globalizing world where cultural resources such as concepts and models of organization circulate across institutional fields. This article illustrates a structural approach to the comparative study of local meanings of global concepts. It demonstrates the use of semantic network analysis (SNA) as a suitable methodological approach to study local meaning structures across nations and institutional fields, by investigating the relationship between institutional logics and local meanings of the industry cluster concept in public discourse in eight countries. The article concludes with recommendations for further applications of SNA to research on institutional meaning systems.
