Abstract
This review compares the main features of recent releases of three geographical information system (GIS) products: ArcView 3.2a, MapInfo 6.0, and Manifold 4.5. ArcView and MapInfo are both good choices of well-established GIS software packages. ArcView hand-holds the user through many tasks and it is easy to remember how it works. MapInfo's interface is not as nice as that of ArcView or Manifold, but it has good raster image registration tools and includes an excellent 3D mapping tool. Manifold 4.5 has many more features than ArcView and MapInfo, but it needs an undo key and raster image support. While admitting its shortcomings, the reviewer concludes that Manifold is the most promising of the three products.
