This article serves as an introduction to Forum on Contemporary Issues: The Effects of and Response to Terrorism. The importance of communication in the transmission of social values and attitudes is discussed as it relates to current events. Mediation theory is applied to the role that parents and teachers play in assisting children to understand the images and rhetoric they encounter.
