Abstract
Dynamic and isothermal thermogravimetric analyses (TGA) were used to determine the kinetic parameters that describe the weight loss of powdered PMR-15 polyimide. With the kinetic values determined from isothermal and dynamic TGA analysis, the equation describing the temperature distribution and subsequent weight loss was solved by numerical analysis. Using power law kinetics, a zero order reaction with activation energy equal to 35000 cal/g-mol and Arrhenius constant of 1 × 109 min -1 was found to best predict the experimental results below 15% weight loss.
