Abstract
Gender is an issue that is increasingly discussed not only in the media and in politics, but also in academics and particularly in economics and public finance. the Symposium on “Public Finance and Gender” selects two aspects to be addressed in more detail: Firstly, gender audits are questioned to be an effective institutional device for strengthening the monitoring and enforcement of gender–neutral policies and budgets. Secondly, women's choices to postpone maternity and how long to stay at home after first birth is analyzed comparatively under the institutional setting in four countries.
