. Senior executives are being rapidly recruited to work for the global companies that enter the People's Republic of China. This chapter examines the differences in learning experienced by execu tives at Compaq-China whose previous experience was with a state-owned enterprise versus those who had previously worked for a multinational com pany. The study revealed that Chinese executives who had worked for a foreign company were more likely to be proactive in learning, to organize and self-direct their learning and learn for personal development as well for leadership promo tion, learn more through informal channels and action learning, learn from a wider circle of resources, be more interactive with the instructors, and take more risks in learning.
