Abstract
The purpose of this article is to advocate for a more strategic and integrated approach to diversity education in HRD academic programs. The article provides a baseline by briefly describing diversity education and reviewing research and practices in higher education. Next, it synthesizes the literature and proposes key competencies needed to teach diversity topics in higher education. It also recommends important topics for an HRD graduate diversity curriculum. The article closes with a discussion of effective pedagogies for teaching diversity so that graduates of HRD programs are better equipped to lead a diverse workforce.
