Abstract
The connecting elements, particularly hoses, in fluid power systems often endure most stress. The demands on hoses are increasing, requiring improved performance in difficult operating environments.
The various factors in high performance environments are examined: pressure, temperature, aggressive fluids, abrasion resistance, service lifetime, small installation and operating space and offshore conditions.
Following an analysis of the various elements in thermoplastic hose construction, the ability of thermoplastic hoses to fulfil the demanding factors in high performance environments is discussed.
It is concluded that thermoplastic hoses provide the optimum solutions to many application problems.
