Abstract
In order to enhance the stiffness and strength characteristics of wood, hybrid laminates consisting of spruce wood with (a) graphite-epoxy and (b) polyester-glass cloth were made. These hybrid laminates were tested for tension, three-point bending and cantilever bending to estimate the effectiveness of the lamination. The results obtained suggest that using graphite-epoxy lamination rather than wood significantly increased the stiffness compared to the polyester-glass, but did not increase the failure load capabilities in three point bending.
