Abstract
This review considers novel characterisation methods that are applicable to analysis of surface modified particulate mineral/plasticscomposites. The mode of action of filler surface modifiers is also discussed in relation to untreated filler matrix interactions with particular regard to semi-crystalline thermoplastics matrices. Both dispersant type and coupling agent type surface modifiers are considered with reference to stearic acid and silane based systems, as well as the authors’ work with a dicarboxylic acid anhydride based material. Non-silane based coupling agent type surface modifiers are also reviewed and compared/ contrasted with the established systems.
