The properties of a number of different TPE materials from different sources were studied under the service conditions of weatherstrips. The long term change in the properties tension set, compression set and stress relaxation were compared with those of standard peroxide and sulphur cured EPDM elastomer extrusions. The best of the TPEs tested were Santoprene 201/55,201/64 and Alcryn 1205 B 60. However the set and stress-relaxation levels were considerably poorer than those of the elastomers tested. A review of previously published test results is also presented.
