Abstract
The chemistry of curing and crosslinking reactions of the major types of unsaturated and saturated elastomers are presented. The elastomers discussed include natural rubber, polyisoprene, polybutadiene, SBR, EPDM, EPR, and silicones. The basic types of curing and crosslinking reactions described include sulphur, peroxide and resin systems. The role of accelerators and activators is considered. A brief comparison of some of the advantages of the various curing systems is also presented.
