Abstract
This paper reviews the scope of polymer foam in building and construction, pointing out modern trends and developments including fire resistance requirements. The paper is subdivided into seven sections: Introduction; Fire Performance; Roofs and Ceilings; Wall Cavities and Panels; Floors, Pavements and Roads; Pipes, Fittings and Accessories and Complete Systems. The advantages and disadvantages of polymer systems are described, along with an assessment of where recent materials research might be heading.
