Abstract
This is the second paper reviewing the designers’ role in plastic waste management. This paper continues the argument presented in the first paper(1) by dealing with a number of key issues and design methods associated with the recycling of plastic waste. It is split up into four main sections which present and discuss techniques such as the ‘cascade’ approach, design for disassembly, component consolidation and material compatibility. Examples are used to illustrate how these techniques are currently being used in commercial products.
