Abstract
The study of ionomers presents a promising and challenging area of modern polymer science and technology. Though ionomers are emerging as important commercial polymers, they have many intriguing characteristics. Because of the thermally reversible ionic associations, ionomers behave like cross-linked materials at ambient temperatures. This thermally reversible behaviour allows the processability of these polymers at elevated temperatures, and high modulus at ambient temperatures, thus making them very versatile. Developments in the science and technology of ionomers are reviewed in this work.
