Natural light has been indispensable in architectural design for cost and quality reasons, as well as for natural environment conservation and psychological considerations. An application of array optics to natural lighting systems is reported in this paper. Theoretical study and a prototype of as optical array device (OAD) have been carried out. The OAD can be used as a static sunlight concentrator in a vertical mode, for oblique incidence and for the illumination of selected areas. The OAD is described in optical, configurational and lighting terms.
