The writers have developed a design approach for visual environment, which is illustrated by a case study of a control room in a power plant. The criteria and parameters are determined by a small skilled observer panel, and the writers then carried out a precise study of the key factors for the visual task. The established criteria and parameters are realised by the 'Designed Appearance Method' and specially-designed lighting system and luminaires. Finally, the writers tested and checked the quality of the designed visual environment by model.
