Abstract
Progress in Europe in the design of integrated lighting and air-conditioning systems is reviewed with particular reference to office installations. After establishing that an illumination level in the range 1000-2000 lux is preferred for working areas, the glare limitation method of Söllner (adopted in Germany, Holland and Austria), experimental work to determine preferred modelling effects, calorimetric measurements and studies of air movements in room spaces are described. Preferred integrated systems are grouped in three categories and descriptions are given of typical installations.
