Tungsten halogen lamps and other modern small sources are frequently associated with specular reflectors. Some notorious problems of reflector design, and in particular the formation of striations, have been accentuated. Effects of source size and diffusion and the precision of contour required to avoid striation are examined; new methods of specifying the shape of the reflector contour and of producing it in practice are described.
