Abstract
A method of calculating the direct ratios of linear sources, such as fluorescent luminaires, is described. Zonal multipliers are partitioned into two factors to allow for the transverse and axial distribution of the source. If these two distributions differ materially, the direct ratio in an oblong room depends on the orientation of the sources and a distinction between longitudinal and transverse layouts is warranted. This study was instigated by CIE Committee E-3.1.1.1.
