The Luminance Study Panel of the Technical Committee, continuing investigations on the IES Glare Index system, recommends, possibly as an interim measure, the control of glare from overall diffusing luminous ceilings by means of a simple limit on the maximum luminance, the recommended maximum luminance being 150 ft lamberts for working environments. Overall diffusing luminous ceilings are not recommended for those working environments in which the IES Code recommends a Glare Index limit of less than 19.
