Abstract
Light is one of the major factors controlling plant growth. By the appropriate use of artificial light greater control over the growth and development of plants is possible. It is a complex subject and in this paper the effects of different light conditions are discussed. Applications of artificial light in research and commercial horticulture are also considered, together with the merits of different light sources for these purposes.
