Abstract
Coping with chronic migraine is challenging. Frequently, patients are left with few explanations and little in the way of effective treatment beyond the most popular, current medications. The researcher – an experimental psychologist, who is also a migraine sufferer – proposes that effective migraine management is action research. She utilized participatory action research to manage chronic daily migraine and suggests that others might do the same as they collaborate with stakeholders (e.g. family members, friends, employers, and healthcare specialists) in order to manage their own chronic disease. Ultimately, authentic management of any chronic illness – as action research – is flexible, optimizing, empowering, and liberating.
