Abstract
As far as the language learning situation is concerned, different methods and techniques have so far been proposed for Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL). The most recent trend in language learning seems to be the Communicative Approach, as a result of which the students experience feelings of both security and assurance. From among the various techniques suggested in the framework of the Communicative Approach, ‘problem-solving’ and ‘role-playing’ are the most common and entertaining. The focus of the present article, however, is on role-play since I believe it is prior to and more important than problem-solving, in which logical reasoning and processes rather than ‘performance objectives’ are involved.
